Been a while since my last review as travelling frequently! Finally some time to write on my eats during recent trip to HCM Vietnam. The above mentioned burger can be purchased from CT Plaza’s 5th floor food court. However, do make it your last meal before departing HCM as CT Plaza is a mere 5 mins away from airport. Buy 10 of these back home if your destination is 2 hrs away! Your loved ones will love you even more. Patty was full of tender shrimp, lettuce gave crunch without mouthful of oil coating my lips. MUST Try!
Next up! Famous FISH Soup. Never tried anything like this before. My contingent had 2 bowls each and if time permitted, 3rd bowl was a sure thing.
To begin with, we helped ourselves to meat pies placed on the tables upon seating. Initial impression was just total mismatch.. Kway Tiao Soup + Pie = Fusion disaster. But foreign style + open mind = *Start Munching on Pie*
It was good! Crust was flaky, filling was generously packed with pork. Slightly overloaded with black pepper thou but breaking news? It was served warm, what more could one ask for.
Firstly, warning to chilli lovers, that 2 slices of chilli will put your tongue on fire. Take it easy and highly recommended to avoid eating. Nam Loi’s fish broth was something I never tasted before in years of travel to Asian countries. Fish wasn’t thickly sliced Singapore style but retained good chew and texture. Soup was… heavenly (Understatement!) Sweet, slightly fishy, nicely oiled with some unknown fragrant oil with slices of chilli providing extra spicy flavors. Confident to say best Kway Tiao Soup i ever had in 30 odd years of my life.
Ordered 2nd bowl with Mee Kia. Liked the Kway Tiao version thou. Funny that extra orders of fish or chicken comes in separate mini bowls filled with soup which you then pour into main bowl already topped up with fish or chicken. Why extra ingredients not placed into main bowl? Unknown.
SOP to add in Pepper & Soya Sauce for more taste. Everyone seems to do so. Follow suit.

Tried to google information on this humongous snail/shellfish but failed to retrieve facts. It was almost the size of my head and caused quite a stir when Yeebo’s restaurant captain brought snails to table for inspection before preparation. It was so huge the snail could sit on pail’s rims.
Nicely prepared with XO sauce, texture almost like an abalone but suspect original shellfish’s meat is tasteless if not for chef’s carefully selected sauces/cooking method. Per Giant Shellfish will set you back by a hefty US$500/Pc. Glad i didn’t foot the bill.
Never had raw prawns before, my virgin raw shrimp dish. Picked one up from bed of shaved ice, dipped into fish sauce infused with chilli and garlic. Cleaner than I thought taste for shrimp, non slimy with bite was almost as tender as cooked prawns surprisingly. Fish sauce complimented prawns really well and once again, glad someone else picked up the tab!

2nd last recommended eats turned up really well. First impression upon hearing of pending visit to a microbrewery, I went with this German Stigma. Delighted to note upon arrival brewery was of Czech influence. Hoavien Microbrewery.
This Brewhouse isn’t accessible via car. A buggy ferries customers in/out of tight lanes to main road.
Seated promptly at 6.30 pm, was expecting Europeans, Americans and expats in troops to come patronize Hoavien. However, droves of local Vietnamese, some tagging along grandparents turned up instead. Slightly different audience compared to microbreweries back home in Singapore.
Indulged in plenty of dark beer. Nice intense bitter balanced with caramel malty flavors allowed me to wallop 3 big pints.
Shredded cheese was first for me as snack. Salty and sour notes opened up my palate for beer. As weird as it sounds, the usual Cheese & Wine buddies is now officially Cheese & Beer BFF instead. The Sausage (Above pictured) & Bacon wrapped shrimp (Not pictured) were star dishes to order.

Next up we head up to Vung Tau, resort/seaside island popular with local Vietnamese. Stayed at Leman Cap Resort. This 20 rooms tranquil boutique resort was really value for money at S$120 per night. Never condensed with people, my stay with Leman Cap rejuvenated energy lost with constant travelling day to night in HCM.
Back to food my dear makankakis, you will find an interesting yet tasty “Flying” noodles within Vung Tau.
Check out how guy preparing the noodles flung up into midair. Apparently he does that to cool down noodles fast.
Noodles was Q, ingredients aplenty. There were ribs, meatballs, minced meat, wanton all soaked in sweet meat clear broth topped up with plenty of spring onions. Prepared to queue for this stall thou.
